For me ITP was a rewarding summer program. The intensive three week courses that focus on one subject at a time were an effective way to study – I received higher grades on those summer courses than I do on normal courses. I also appreciated the different style of teaching and new perspectives by the foreign professors. The project done over the 3,5 months was the most exciting thing in ITP. This was the first time I was involved in a real-life company project with clear expectations for results. I had a chance to work in a team that worked well together from the beginning. The company was also very helpful and as excited as we were about the project. The project required a lot of work, creativity and commitment – a challenge to overcome. As we passed check points and finally presented the results to the company, the feeling was superb. The company was happy, ITP staff was happy and our team was happy. We received good feedback and grades for the project, so it was worth the hard work.
All in all, ITP was a good experience that gave me new contacts and experience. The project gave me confidence in working with companies and doing my master’s thesis in the near future. I also learned a lot about team dynamics and my role as a team member. I can sincerely recommend the ITP to anyone and everyone interested in IT, it’s a challenging and rewarding learning experience.

The summer I spent in the Information Technology Program gave me a large amount of practice, skills, and friendship. Particularly the hands-on working style in SED made it possible to learn by doing and provided plenty of self-learning experience. Customary to SED, tasks are usually highly interactive with both fellow students as well as the surrounding environment, such as in fieldwork assignments.
Also, the project carried out during the summer alongside with the courses improved skills in teamwork as well as project management. These projects are implemented entirely by student teams, so the success is mainly reliant on the drive of none other than you. This, combined with the close cooperation with a business client, added more interest to the project and provided experience about working in real life.
One thing I really enjoyed about ITP was that the skills taught in the lectures wouldn’t remain detached, but would rather be immediately put to use in the project. Thus, the learning experience was progressive and effective. This also meant that the work done in the project was an indication of learning, so the team spirit was high in reaching a mutual goal.
Thanks to the course experts and helpful ITP staff, I acquired a lot of hands-on experience in software strategy and design. These skills are highly valued by companies and facilitate me to proceed for example in the Information Technology sector. I can sincerely recommend the SED program to anyone interested in spending a rewarding summer with Information Technology.

We’re glad to let you know that HSE has published an interesting article on this year’s ITP, where they interview two ITP students on their experiences of the program.
Check out the article here. It’s available both in Finnish and in English.

Well, this is it for the Information Technology Program 2009. We had a great summer and completed some very successful projects.
As hard work demands hard fun, ITP ended in a Reboot party, kindly arranged by Stonesoft in their premises. In the peak of the celebration, the fabled alumni award was passed on to its next owner, a gentleman named Mikhail Savine. Goes without saying that with the award comes great responsibility – hopefully the prize travels even beyond China this time around. Congratulations!
A final thanks goes to all the participants for putting together a splendid summer. We hope to meet you again soon and wish you all the best in your future endeavours!
